THE PAVAN EDIT · AMERICANA / NO. 01
The New American Wardrobe
Vintage spirit. Modern confidence. How to wear the pieces we return to—denim, original graphic tees, heritage-inspired layers, and a little Western attitude—with a point of view that is entirely your own.

Americana is not a costume.
Forget the idea that you need a complete look to belong to an aesthetic. The American wardrobe is less about rules than about lived-in favorites. Denim softened by years of wear. A neatly cut shirt. A jacket with a little structure. Shoes you can actually walk in. And perhaps the most personal piece of all: a T-shirt with artwork that makes you smile, remember something, or show a different side of yourself.
Modern Americana draws from several closets at once: collegiate prep, Western workwear, relaxed sportswear, vintage illustration, and the effortless polish of everyday classics. Its strength is the mix. A Western graphic feels modern under a tailored jacket. A tennis-club tee looks less literal with worn denim. Small bow earrings add the unexpected finishing touch to something rugged.
At House of Pavan, we start with original graphic artwork by Sofi and let the rest of the outfit follow. The clothes you already own provide the foundation; the design supplies personality.
Six essentials that make the look.
1. A graphic tee that actually means something
Choose a motif for the feeling, not just because it appears on your feed. Rodeo nostalgia, a smiling flower, a favorite everyday ritual, or a little club-style typography can each define a different mood. Start with a color you already wear often. A cream or dark neutral base will often fit into more outfits than a shirt bought exclusively because of its print.
Fit matters as much as art. A roomy tee with a defined waist can feel relaxed; the same tee with wide trousers and no structure creates an entirely different silhouette. Neither is wrong. Check the garment's particular measurements rather than assuming all printed T-shirts fit alike.
2. Denim that feels like yours
Whether you favor dark straight-leg jeans, faded relaxed denim, a midi skirt, or a jacket, treat denim as the reliable backdrop. Dark washes sharpen the outline of a graphic. Washed blues make it casual. A belt or simple half-tuck can help balance an oversized shape. Denim does not have to be distressed to feel authentic.
3. A layer with structure
One navy blazer, crisp shirt, chore-style jacket, or well-proportioned cardigan adds contrast. Try a graphic tee underneath a jacket with a clean shoulder line. The graphic keeps the look interesting while the tailored layer gives it intention. It's a useful way to wear expressive artwork when you want a slightly more polished outfit.
4. A layer with texture
A cotton sweatshirt, patterned knit, plaid shirt, or soft overshirt adds depth without needing extra color. The interplay between cotton, denim and knitwear is often more compelling than a complicated palette. In cooler weather, let just a little of the shirt's artwork show from an open jacket.
5. Shoes that change the story
The very same T-shirt and jeans can lean Western with boots, coastal with flat sandals, or preppy with loafers. If you build your outfit around what you already have, shoes can provide the most cost-effective change in personality. Fashion should suit the day you're actually having.
6. One finishing flourish
Restraint keeps the outfit from becoming thematic. A Western belt buckle, an embroidered cap, delicate earrings, or a small neck scarf is usually enough. When the graphic itself is bold, let it be the focal point. If the tee is subtle, use your accessories to add the contrast.
The best American style looks collected over time, not bought in one afternoon.
Four outfit formulas worth repeating.
The everyday classic
An original graphic tee, straight-leg denim, white sneakers and a cardigan. Start with an ivory or faded neutral shirt, then use the cardigan to soften the print. A tiny front tuck gives definition without sacrificing comfort.
The city-meets-country look
Try a Western graphic with a dark blazer, good denim and boots. Avoid adding every cowboy reference at once; one recognizably Western piece is enough. The contrast between precise tailoring and nostalgic art is what makes the outfit feel current.
The polished afternoon
Use a graphic tee with a cotton or satin-look skirt and uncomplicated flats. Keep the bottom half in a quiet tone, then let the print bring personality. Add earrings if you want to dress the look up, but skip extra statement pieces.
The off-duty clubhouse
Choose a tennis-inspired tee with chinos or loose shorts, a baseball cap and simple sneakers. This is sportswear as a wardrobe influence, not a claim to club membership. Clean shapes and soft textures make it approachable.
Start with the artwork.

A four-season way of thinking.
Spring: Layer a tee beneath a crisp button-down or lightweight jacket. Try relaxed jeans and loafers. Keep the palette close to cream, washed blue, soft green or navy, and allow one printed design to anchor the look.
Summer: Let the artwork stand alone with shorts or a casual skirt. A tee with Western or floral character needs little else beyond comfortable footwear. When the weather is warm, simple construction and a comfortable fit matter more than elaborate styling.
Autumn: Use the tee beneath plaid, knitwear, a denim jacket or a blazer. Add a boot or belt detail. Balance the colors so the artwork is still visible rather than lost among competing prints.
Winter: Favor a sweatshirt or layered shirt with a coat and relaxed trousers. Printed artwork can still have a place under heavier textures, even when only part of the design is visible.
How to keep Americana individual.
Try the one-plus-one rule: one item with personality plus one classic that grounds it. A rodeo design with dark jeans. A cheerful illustrated tee with a plain cardigan. A tennis graphic with your old favorite chinos. Finish with something that belongs to you, not to a particular trend cycle.
There is a difference between vintage-inspired and vintage. House of Pavan's current printed garments are new pieces with original artwork and nostalgic influences, not authenticated historical clothing. We identify Comfort Colors® only on individual listings that specify those garments.

Modern Americana: quick answers
What is modern Americana fashion?
A contemporary blend of classic American casualwear, denim, preppy layers, Western influences and personal details. A graphic T-shirt is an easy way to make the combination expressive.
Can a printed tee look polished?
Yes. Pair a well-fitting graphic tee with a blazer, dark denim, tailored trousers or a skirt. Limit competing details and keep the proportions balanced.
Do I need boots or cowboy accessories?
No. Loafers, sneakers, flats and sandals can all work. Western styling is only one strand of Americana.
Are House of Pavan vintage-inspired shirts actual vintage?
They are contemporary graphic garments with nostalgic influences. Authentic vintage garments are not implied by the phrase vintage-inspired.
